Re: macOS Sierra 10.12 - incompatible with iFamily!

Hi If you go to the Members area there is a post with v2.9.4 which will run under macOS Sierra with an issue or two. There is also info in that post on how to get around the duplicate file error on startup. Meanwhile Warwick is working on a new release which should be available soon. Hope that helps...

Hi Robyn

Just double click on an ancestor to make him or her the Focal person and then you can add parents, spouses or children.

Re: How do I upgrade to the latest release?

Hi,

Assuming you are a registered user then you need to go to the Members area on the Forum and head to the link for the latest version (currently v 2.9.3) which works on all El Capitan releases.

Re: Which Name to Use

Hi Phil, Sorry not to reply sooner but I hoped someone with direct experience of this would chip in. In my view of genealogy you should use your birth name linked to your birth mother (and father if possible) as that is your line of descent. You can then enter your adopted parents with the appropria...

Re: Update for El Capitan

Hi Melissa, You need to update to iFamilyForMac version 2.9.3 when using El Capitan It is available in the members forum section. You may need to find the file you want to open as I think there is an issue with keeping the recent list. I'm sure Warwick will add any migration issues. Regards Nigel

Re: Sorting the list of children from the oldest to the youngest

Hi Chandra, Have you entered the date of birth for the children? This is the only way I know to list them in the correct order. I believe it is alphabetical if no dates provided. If you are not too sure of the birthdays you can enter 'abt 1980' for example to get the right sorting. I would advise ag...

Hi Ken,

Weird as I have all the various document producers on my machine but no PDF option.

Just to confirm can you list the steps you take to get to the dropdown menu with the PDF option as I have gone through all my report option and they all seem the same?

Re: Word Processor

Hi,

If you mean for generating a report then you can select the app to open the report in via the 'Open report in:' drop down menu.

I believe this requires that you have the app installed

Re: Sources Invisible in Yosemite

Hi,

I reported (in the Members forum under the Yosemite thread) an issue where the source entries are not visible in the source list or the source page for an event.

Can you see something of the entry at those locations?

Re: Different colour font?

Hi, Hope it proves OK. iFamily will take approximate dates using the abt, bef, aft (and others) type modifiers (abt = About, bef = Before, aft = After) though it does not allow a range. I find that quite acceptable when you don't know the actual date but can guess some limit. Having an approximate d...

Re: Two Identities - unable to create ged and other reports

Hi Anne,

Have you tried the menu option 'File ... Move Data File'?

Not sure if this would solve the problem but it might reset the various references to the old user name to the new path.

Not tried it but it is the right way to move a data file so it might help.

Hi,

A Note is for a piece of information you wish to keep with the person.

A Comment is for something you are not too sure about and want to check later.

You can list all entries with a comment to help keep track.

Hope that helps.

Hi Robin,

I believe the usual approach would be to add an event for each fact in the article and add a source citation for each one.

You can clone events for other people to save some typing.

Hi Kirsten, I think the only way you can do this is to enter something in the marriage field under the Family tab. This can be the date or place (possibly a note) and don't forget to press enter.
