Import GEDCOM from GENE from Mac 9.5.5?

Post by georgebailey99 » Sun Feb 04, 2018 8:56 pm

Hello friends. I want to import a GEDCOM from the GENE program that resides on my old Mac with OS 9.5.5 to my iMac with OSX 10.13.3 High Sierra. Although i expect I normally can't do that, does anyone know if there is a conversion or other method to do that. iFamily is a great program, but I have run dual systems long enough and it is time to convert totally to the superior program that iFamily offers. Thanks!

Hi

There should not be a problem with importing a .ged file into iFamily.

I’m not familiar with the GENE program but I would expect it can export a gedcom file to the 5.5 standard.

Copy this file onto your new Mac (using a flash drive, CD or other means) and the use the File menu option to import a GED file.

Not all programs follow the standard closely so there may be parts of the data may fail to import correctly. iFamily is pretty good at handling files and will report problems.

Warwick can help if there are major problems.

Have fun

Nigel
