Re: Increase character limit in source field?
I really should have thought this all the way through before starting the first post in this series, but I have to add that the warning appears and the entry is truncated only when I have entered the information and then go back to it and try to edit it. The information is accepted when first entere...

Re: Increase character limit in source field?
This is not a reply to my own message, but a clarification: the 248-character limit appears in the PageRef field. I don't run into it in any other field. Can the character limit be increased to whatever the limit in the Notes field is? I've never run out of room in Notes.

Increase character limit in source field?
Could the number of allowed characters in a source field be increased? I sometimes get a message saying that the limit is 248 (I think...), whereupon everything beyond that is chopped off. There appears to be no character limit in the Notes field, though, and I have to repeat the source information ...

Sources Invisible in Yosemite
Sources are reduced or compressed into lines too small to click on in iFamily v. 2.9.0 running under OS X Yosemite, v. 10.10. How can I expand the compressed lines?

Version 2.888 crashes when dropping picture
I have just run into an odd behavior in v. 2.888: when dragging and dropping a picture from one individual's file to another's (e.g., a census page from father to child), iFamily crashes after giving a choice of file names, but on reopening will complete such a transfer with no problem. Is there a w...

Spouse is "not"...
In Version 2.884 when I mouse over the name of the spouse of a relative I get a popup box saying "(Name) is not the spouse of..." when I know that he or she really was the spouse. How did the negation term get in there, and can I get it out?

Father died before offspring's conception
I get this "error" message from time to time. The father did indeed die before the child was born, but less than nine months before, so could well have been the father. Could the code that checks this relationship be changed along the lines of "IF [child's birthdate] - [father's death date] ≥ 9 mont...

Stepmother Too Young or Old
Could the consistency checking algorithm be changed so that it doesn't report an error when a stepmother is too young to have been the natural mother of her husband's offspring? Widowed men with children often married much younger women, especially if they had been widowed more than once, and iFamil...

GEDCOM export/import errors
Hi Warwick, No, the guy at FTM support couldn't help. I was the one who suggested trying to import the GEDCOM into Ancestry.com and then download that file, if Ancestry accepted it, into FTM4Mac, which worked. I just tried turning off "Custom tags", exporting a GEDCOM file, and telling FTM to import...

GEDCOM export/import errors
OK, I found a workaround. I uploaded the GEDCOM file generated by iFamily for Leopard to Ancestry.com, which accepted it, and then imported the Ancestry.com file to Family Tree Maker for Mac. I still have a ton of work to do in importing pictures and fleshing out sources, but at least I don't have t...

GEDCOM export/import errors
I forgot to include the following when I posted the query above. When I tried changing the default application for opening the GEDCOM to Family Tree Maker and double-clicked, an error message came up: "Family Tree Maker cannot open files in GEDitCOM GEDCOM format." Is there a workaround on this or d...

GEDCOM export/import errors
I am trying to import a GEDCOM generated by iFamily for Leopard into the new Family Tree Maker for Mac. Each time I try the progress panel shows 10 errors, and after 1% has been imported Family Tree Maker crashes. Apparently it can't understand the format of the GEDCOM iFamily generates. I have trie...

Changing Fonts in Notes and Reports
Thanks, Nigel. It's odd that Keith allowed changing fonts in the cards in the main pane but not anywhere else. I successfully changed them from the default (Helvetica?) to Times New Roman a long time ago. I prefer a serif font for most text because the serifs make reading easier. Maybe in a futur...

Changing Fonts in Notes and Report
I have tried to change the font from Helvetica to Times New Roman in Notes without success. I can change during one work session, but the changes are not saved: when I reopen the file, everything is in Helvetica again.
Is there a way to change the font and have the change saved?

Search and Replace
I'm using v. 2.500 and would like to have a Search and Replace command to change such things as state abbreviations to full state names. Would that be possible?

Mistress vs Wife
If I know that a woman was the mistress, not the wife, of a man who was also married to another woman, is there a way to keep iFamily from designating her as his wife without changing the way it designates all relationships (i.e., husband/wife, spouse, partner, or no label? I have just added a note ...
