Re: When Adding a New Source iFamily freezes!

Nigel, thanks! I think you have hit on the problem. I have been trying to use my database with a laptop and a desktop Mac, each with different updates, neither of which can be upgraded. I may have to go back to just using the laptop, though, to avoid the hassles of the big screen with the outdated S...

Re: When Adding a New Source iFamily freezes!

I really need help. My Source box is just freezing after I make any additions that require the pop up, etc. A bell rings. Then the key functions all freeze and I must Force Quit to get the App functioning again.

Sigh.

When Adding a New Source iFamily freezes!

No matter which computer I am using (all have the latest version of IFamily available for my Macs downloaded) when I try to add a new Source the Source Box freezes and the only way I can continue to work is to Force Quit, each time. Oddly, the Source I select is often saved once the App is active ag...

Re: Update for El Capitan

Don't worry, Melissa! I got it from the web.

(Why is it that I panic first, then think second.)

:)

Works now.

Re: Update for El Capitan

Melissa,

Could you email me the El Capitan steps, too, please? [Admin: email address removed]

I am unable to open iFamily, atm.

Panicking a bit.

Kind thanks

O'Shea not appearing in "finder" window

I have lots of O'Shea members in my family tree, but the 'finder' in iFamily refuses to recognise any of them. Yet it recognises O'Connell members if I search for them so the O' is not confusing iFamily. Can anyone clarify what I need to do to get the O'Shea members to also appear up on the right se...

Re: Adding a new parent

Ghost outlines! Sorry! I had it turned off for some odd reason.

Have now solved the problem.

What an amazing little assistant Ghost Outlines is you realise once you have lost it!

Adding a new parent

I must be having a mental blip -- I often do these days~ :) -- but when I went to ADD a parent I thought I just clicked on the person and an empty box comes up for an addition for dad and/or mum? That is not happening for me anymore. I am in the wrong view, or something? I cannot seem to easily Add ...

iFamily name

Warren,

I have just been wondering -- is there to be an updated name: iFamily for Lion?

Or just iFamily?

Or -- (and this is really what I have been wondering) :) are all those single i-starting-titles all copyrighted?

Context page problem

I must have hit something odd and I can't find it to change it, so I would appreciate your help.

The names in my Context Page: e.g. Anne Webb are showing but today they are showing with (No Title/No Occupation) showing after them.

Where do I go to turn this off, please?

Yep, Enid, doing that now as I recently have acquired a lovely little hard drive just for genealogy.

Chuffed. (Love that you are bursting the bank with big picture gigs, and that it is holding up! Reassuring to hear.)

:)

Thanks, Sue, I have been doing that, and will continue to do it, but it&#39s just a bit clunky, I think.

Ah well.

Thanks Warren and Geordielass. My FtkSkl is small but my Picture folder is getting into the 400 MB mark and I am still only a beginner! And I do backup -- tho' I have lost bits of work (the worst was 6 good weeks where I didn't back up: was in the process of backing up when my lovely laptop fr...

Order of Burial and Death entries in Events

I have this other regular problem, too.

If I put a Burial Event in in 1969. Then I put a more precise date for the Death Event: e.g. 29 Mar 1969, iFamily always wants to put the Burial Event -before- the Death Event.

A wee bit gruesome sequence. ;)

How can I overcome this, please?

Will iFamily explode?

I have been using iFamily for a year now -- exactly the same length of time I have been 'doing genealogy'. I am adding a new Source for each new Event. To each Source I am dragging a screen captured image of the 'evidence' or proof of the source so that I can quickly refer to it whenever...

One more tip: Use no space or use a no-break space after the number so that iFamily doesn't think that the person's real first name is their middle name. To enter a no-break space hold down the Option key when you press the space bar. And I guess that if there are more than nine children then they ...

List of children in order

I am attempting to input data from a hand-written family tree which includes a list of 10 children, but no dates of birth, yet the order of the 10 children is correct ie: the 1st on the list is the eldest and so on. How do I add them as a list of children so that they stay in birth order --given tha...
