In the middle of the lines connecting people there is a small circle. Click on this to change the percentage likelihood of the link. I find it useful because I can include people on my diagram for whom I have rather dodgy source information, which serves to remind me of their possible relationship t...

Re: iPhone
I see both "Reunion" and "MacFamily" genealogy software programs have an iPhone app. How long before iFamily gets one? And I see today that MacFamily is about to have a version for the iPad. I love iFamily and have never regretted giving up MacFamilyTree but it is becoming ever more frustrating tha...

The iPad may well prove to be the ideal portable medium for iFamily. The screen will be big enough to view iFamily in much the same way as on my 12" iBook, although I wouldn't try to show too many generations of ancestors at once! I hope that the work that has already been done on iFamily for the...

Ancestors and Descendants timelines
I have in mind timelines for ancestors and descendants with life-spans shown as bars of appropriate length which would be aligned appropriately with the time bar at the top. Only the names and the birth/death dates need be shown. I would find such charts interesting because of the slippage in dates ...

1: File size - and 2: Placeholders
I have transferred iFamily (v2.505) from my iBook (Tiger) to my new iMac (Leopard). 1: I noticed the speed increase straight away and then I did as suggested and exported the database to Gedcom and imported it back to iFamily. Now it is blindingly fast, but the file size (for almost 5000 people) has...

There is a simple mathematical reason why it is easier to show ancestors than descendants in a confined space. Ancestors only increase by powers of two for each extra level, whereas descendants can increase at a much higher rate. If I choose some of my more prolific ancestors it is not uncommon for ...

Tom, thank you for your comprehensive and helpful reply. All I have to do now is wait for the new product releases and the release of Snow Leopard. Who knows, perhaps I will be able to use something other than the iBook for portability; an iPod Touch, perhaps, or an Apple netbook if such is forthcom...

iFamily on a USB flash drive
I seem to remember a reference to storing the iFamily data on a flash drive but a (quick) search failed to find it. Clearly it would be an advantage in porting the data between different Macs (with appropriately careful synchronisation) and, in my case, it would free up space on my aging G4 iBook. I...

Source picture
I inadvertently dragged and dropped a source picture on to the wrong source and now I can't get rid of the thumbnail - I have removed the copy of the source picture from the data file, but the thumbnail and the title still remain. How can I remove them?
