Back to Basics

If we go back to the inception of iFamily - iFamily for Tiger etc. This part of the Forum was meant to include general discussion of Genealogy and Family Research, not just the problems accruing from Apple's changes of it's Operating System, as seems to be the norm now. Come to think of it there nev...

Literal Strings on UI

Hi, iFamily in common with all application programs has Literal Test files that insert plain text messages into the user interface. One of my criticisms of iFamily is the "No Death Date" which appears at the final entry on the Events frame. Recently I added a new born to my iFamily tree and was some...

Progress

Nowadays many users of Genealogy software wish to publish their efforts to a wider audience. Most, if not all, such programs provide tools that help by including Gedcom or HLML export. iFamily offers an HTML website feature as well as the Gedcom format About 2015 I used the HTML tool and obtained us...

Re: 64 bit compatibility

Hi Warwick, Thanks for your clarification and the work you have done to ensure the continued support of iFamily on future Mac OS releases. A small point is that officially El Capitain was released as OS X, the name changing to Mac OS with Sierra and beyond. I assume that iFamily will work / update O...

Re: 64 bit compatibility

Hi Warwick, Have just downloaded 2.9.6 and have so far noticed no problems. It actually seems a bit more agile, but that may be a mistken first impression? I am still running Mac OS 10.9.5, and do not wish to upgrade yet due to other software considerations. I noticed that your next release may no l...

64 bit compatibility

Hi,
I have recently seen that Apple will be withdrawing support for 32 bit systems and apps from some time in 2018. Is iFamily already 64 bit, or is it still being worked on? I remember there was a glitch in an earlier release of iFamily which attempted 64 bit.

Regards

Focal Persons on Toolbar

Being one of those who shuts off programs when not using it would be very useful if iFamily could remember the list of Focal Persons in the Toolbar drop down list. At present the list is deleted when iFamily is shut down. Also Back & Forward buttons would be welcome. I believe that such a facility w...

Re: HTML Pictures too big

Hi Warwick
That’s an excellent solution. Looking foreword to version 2.9.2 - and hopefully 2.9.n in the future!
Will also keep the Tiger / Leopard version in the background as I also have a back up Mac that can only run Tiger,

Good luck for the future, both for you & iFamily!

Thanks

Ray

Re: HTML Pictures too big

To Warwick What exactly do you mean by:- "Please stick with iFamily for Mac V2.9.1 if possible, the older V2.895 will be deactivated before xmas via an update” Have you inserted an "auto destruct" in the program? I’ve always kept an old version of iFamily as a backup in case anything goes wrong, wil...

Suggested "Small" Improvements

iFamily for Mac - Snow Leopard ( & Tiger ) There are several small 'annoyances' & bugs in this program which I feel would require minimum effort to fix. 1) When adding a source by opening the A/S dialog box the cursor or entry point selects line 1 and not the last line in the source table. This is v...

Rhys What you describe is exactly, or seems so, what I've been doing since I started to use iFamily!? A lot of my 'sources' are Census scans and Newspaper or Books - many sourced via Ancestry or the various archives like Archive.org & Google. I save these as pdf or jpeg files and then to have them r...

Hi Opps! Being using this facility for sometime now! Must be doing something wrong? I rely on images of full census scans to give me rapid access to the 'true' source data. If the 'image' is more than a single sheet then iFamily shows only the top sheet, but the rest can quickly be viewed using prev...

Adding an existing person as an associated person

When trying to add an existing person as an associated person the resulting dialog box does not work. This has been an issue in version 2.211 and still no change in 2.522. Other relationship attachments work OK.
