Update not working?

When attempting a 'Check For New Version" I constantly get an 'Connection Error: Unknown Error" This has been happening for some time.

I also notice that the 'latest' release information on the website is 2.526 although I'm running 2.885.

Has this software been abandoned?

What you want is sometimes called a 'bow tie' chart. See one here http://tinyurl.com/23efz . Also called an 'Hour Glass' chart. I think to be accurate the Bow Tie has ancestors on both sides. Father on one side, mother on the other. An Hour Glass has ancestors on one side and descendants...

In regard to Question #5 iFamily allows you to 'calculate' relationships in 'People > Relationships Calculator' Here you can select a focal person AND a second person that you want to check the 'connection line' to. You end up with something like 'Focal Person>Son>Daughter>Daugh...
