Have you tried using the original Installation disk on the broken mac?
You may be able to open the 'Utilities' folder from that disk and then try to 'Verify' and 'Repair Disk'

Select 'Pictures' at the bottom of the persons page, highlight the picture by clicking on it and hit the - minus button on the left also at the bottom.

Highlight the persons name and click on the word Family at the bottom. This will enable you to fill in any details of that person.
