Re: "Find" criterion changed to "Birth Place"

Thanks Nigel. Fairly subtle, but probably obvious once I know about it.

Cheers,
Paul.

"Find" criterion changed to "Birth Place"

Recently (I'm not sure exactly when) the "Find" box in the menu bar has started doing a "Find in birth place" rather than the previous Find by name, which isn't very useful. I can't find out where to change it back, or why it changed. I'm using version 2.9.8 and MacOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra). Any poin...

gedcom import doesn't connect people properly

I have received a gedcom from a correspondent and imported it into iFamily. I am having some issues with it. While importing, it generated a long list of errors and exceptions - not necessarily unusual. But, more importantly, all the records seem to be disconnected. If I bring up a person, I get the...

Thanks, Warwick. The relationships pane was helpful for me in this case, since I wanted to see all my second cousins. So I selected "great-grandchildren" for all 4 of my great-grandparents separately and got 4 separate listings; by eliminating the known first cousins and my siblings I was left with ...

How do I find cousins?

Is there any way to list all people who are related in a specific way to the focal person or the root person, e.g. all second cousins, or all great-grandfathers?

Report by relationship

Is there a way of generating a report, or even a dialog box list, of all relatives who are related to the focal person in a particular way - e.g. all the third cousins or all the great-aunts?

Thanks.

Date-stamping data entry

I have discovered the value of properly documenting sources, particularly when something crops up later to throw a question onto something. But what would be equally valuable is that each item of data be date-stamped when it is entered or modified. Sources sometimes change, or if you have to refer b...

Thanks Nigel. Sorry to be so long replying. I used Warwick&#39s method initially, but will want to do the same again and this way is better.

How long will it take?

I am in the process of loading a very large gedcom file into iFamily for Leopard - there are 6.5 million lines and over 400,000 entries (presumably people). Understandably this is taking a long time. I am giving the process dedicated access to my iMac G5. So far it has taken 28 hours to get to the e...

Thanks, Warwick.

That approach occurred to me after I posted the question. It works OK, but at least I know there isn&#39t a one-step process.

Exclude specific people from Gedcom export

I would like to do a gedcom export of Focal Person + Descendants, but for privacy reasons wish to exclude a specific descendant plus their descendants. I can&#39t seem to find an obvious way to do this. Is it possible, and how?

Thanks,

Paul.
