Searching for words, phrases, etc., in "Notes"
I frequently have occasion to look for a person in my file by a phrase or word. For example, I have a memory of someone in my file coming over on the Mayflower, but memory escapes me as to which person it was. How can I search for "Mayflower" (or some such word or phrase) in Notes?

Report on source citations
Hi, Warwick, Thanks for the help on my "rebuild". Whew! Everything is fine now. In "Sources" I want to print out a list of the persons in my index for which I have used a particular source reference. I click on "Sort by surname" and, sure enough, the citations appear in surname order. However, when ...

Alphabetizing in reports
I am still having trouble with this topic. I just generated a "Filtered People" report to list all persons in my database born before 1700 in France. It listed the proper people, but they are alphabetized by their FIRST names rather than by their SURNAMES (i.e., all ANNS together, all PIERRES togeth...

Alphabetizing in reports
How do I have reports produce lists alphabetizing by surname rather than by first name? Right now it produces reports with all "Maries" together rather than all "Browns" together. Is that a default?

Searching for pictures/searching for "Marriage Place&qu
My iFamily is huge. I know I have a picture in "Pictures" of a certain cathedral for a particular person. I want to search for it to copy it and drop it into another person. How do I do that? Also why can't I search for a "Marriage Place" like "Birth Place" or "Death Place"? Is that a "filter" th...

Alternate dates
In several cases I have "alternate" (i.e., more than one) birth, marriage, death date for some people. I want to show both in the database until one is confirmed. Is there any way I can show both, with one as "Preferred"? Right now, if I want to add another birth date in Events, it tells me one is a...

Occupation filtering
Thanks, Nigel:
I made an "Events" Report to find the "Occupations" I had entered in there (not that many) and put them in the Description field. I am now good to go.

Filtering People (Occupation)
Warwick, you are the best--but I still have a problem. I do have V2.500. It will filter people for everything BUT Occupation/Title. I put in a known occupation from my file (which are entered in EVENTS) and I get a blank report. I have tried both the Microsoft Word app and the TextEdit app. What am ...

Searching and filtering and date entries
(1) How do you search for an occupation; i.e., all "mechanics" or all "tailors" in the file? The "Filtered People" report does not have that option. I have entered occupations in the EVENTS pane. (2) How do you search for an AKA or ALIAS? Again, I know I entered data in the AKA field for several peo...

Consanguinity with focal person
Thanks so much, Warwick. I have done all that and I know the consanguinity is shown when you scroll over each person's box on the diagram. What I had done before resulted in the consanguinity being shown on each person's little box ALL THE TIME. It was part of the info in the box. As I worked ...

Consanguinity with focal person
I accidentally found how to show the consanguinity of each person to the focal person (namely, me). I love it. I can tell by looking at each person's little box on a diagram how they are related to me. However, I (also accidentally by fooling around with the "preferences") disengaged that functio...

Sue, you are the BEST!! It was very easy, and it worked!
Yesterday, I also posted several questions under the subject "NEW USER QUESTIONS". Can you help me with any of those?

NEW USER QUESTIONS
I am a new user (just love iFamily!) but I have a few questions: 1. How do I do AKAs or alternate names? 2. How do I make myself a "permanent" or "default" focus person for the purpose of calculating relationships? 3. I stupidly named my GEDCOM file from Family Tree Maker "GEDCOM". How can I change ...

Connecting disconnected children
SORRY, I FORGOT SUBJECT LINE AND DID NOT CHECK "NOTIFY ME" OF REPLY IN THIS POSTING. I intentionally disconnected ten children from a couple in error, but they really are their biological children. They are listed a step children of the FATHER ONLY with no connection to the mother. I want to have th...
