Re: Crash during "Save and close" in "Add a source reference to"
Hi This is a known issue with 14.3 as covered in the thread under members section. Warwick is working on it and I hope a new update will be released real soon now. Although it crashes the main items of info are actually saved. I have found that the Cause info is not saved. Now that the public beta o...

Re: Hierarchical source references?
Hi again, I tried to write a reply a few days ago but the website requires a login (even though I was logged in) and deleted my post. Anyway, I still think you are not using the Source correctly. My understanding of the source is it is a reference to something that contains information but does not ...

Re: Hierarchical source references?
Hi Don’t worry about your English. It is fine. I’m sure you are over complicating the multi page source. Most sources are many pages & volumes. The reference to a particular page is handled in the Event that links to the source. For the example you gave where the page refers to the parents and grand...

Re: Hierarchical source references?
Hi, I'm not sure what you expect from Hierarchical Source references but iFamily will list all the Citations for a particular source which lets you know all Events that call up a particular Source: An example is: Sources Report for Richman_Holman_family Created on Monday 3-Jun-2024 at 05:50 PM Sourc...

Re: Hierarchical source references?
Hi The way I view it is there are two parts to Sources. The first part is the source such as: 1851 Census 1901 Census UK Birth records Family Bible Manchester Evening Newspaper When you record an event such as a Census entry you would have a Citation (ref to particular page of a Census book) to a pa...

Re: Hierarchical source references?
i, Not exactly sure what you are trying to do but once a Source Citation is added (the exact reference in a Source - e.g Page xx from the 1911 Census) you can make that citation the Active source and Clone it to other people. Do do this, Select an event (e.g. Census entry) and right click on it. Sel...

Re: Lived-in and similar events?
Hi, I can help here. You need to create an event for the date of the birth certificates with the type of Residence (from the drop down list. This is a RESI event in the GEDCOM file when exported. You can have as many of these events as you like for each person. I usually add the info based on the ad...

Re: Place metadata
Hi,
I don't think so. iFamily treats a place as a string of text rather than a structure such as:
House name or Number
Street
Town
County
Post code
Country
or equivalent for other countries

Hi,
I've not found a way to have a date format other than dd MMM YYYY.
The event Date dialogue allows you to correct badly formatted dates from a GEDCOM import.

Re: generate list with cause of death?
Hi Cathleen, Thanks for the clarification. It would be quite a problem working from the gedcom export unless you could import into another app that could report as you want. Hopefully Warwick is monitoring this and can provide some suggestions as to how to generate an extract of the database. As you...

Re: generate list with cause of death?
Hi Cathleen, When you say export do you mean a GEDCOM file export or are you using the Report .. Descendants... menu option. If you mean the former then an export of the whole database would give you what you want other than it being a gedcom format file - Cause of death has an Event type CAUS. If y...

Re: move person?
Hi Cathleen I believe the only way to do what you want is to disconnect the person from the current parent and then add as new child to the new parent. You need to have appropriate dates of birth for new parent and offspring so that the person appears in the offered ‘prospective children’. Hope that...

Re: Removing one family from a database to start up on their own
Hi Firstly, make a copy of your database. Then using the copy database, disconnect people connected to the root person you want to have as the basis of the new tree that you don’t want to include. This is usually the parents of the partner of the root. Then, select File…Export… Export Gedcom…All peo...

Re: Option for OCTI changed into OCCU when exporting GEDCOM
Hi, Events for Occupation do use the OCCU format though I am not sure it is correct with the TYPE field being used for the actual occupation. _OCTI seems to be generated (in my exports at least) where a title has been added in the Person Tab. If I create a Title (Sir, Baron etc) as an event using TI...

Re: New Computer 12.3.1 NO iFamily?
Kathy, I'm sorry you are still having issues with iFamily & macOS Monterey. I am convinced something must have gone wrong with the transfer of data from your old machine to your new one when you initially set it up as I have had very few issues with Monterey or iFamily v 2.12.0 Did you ever locate t...

Support for new versions of GEDCOM
I have been looking at the GEDCOM export/import from iFamily and it used GEDCOM 5.5 standard which is quite old. The latest GEDCOM org spec is 5.5.5 though 5.5.1 is often used (Not sure of the changes). FamilySearch have issued GEDCOM 7.x which is not an update but a new standard - which is a bit co...

Re: New Computer 12.3.1 NO iFamily?
Hi Strange that the finder search does not find any .ftksql files. Do you have an iFamilyData folder in “Documents”? Or any where on the computer? The Backup files are generated when you do a database merge (and possibly other times) as a way to protect your data. Bottom line for me is if there are ...

Hi, It can be disabled in System Preferences as a system wide change. Re: New Computer 12.3.1 NO iFamily?
Hi Kathy, I assume you mean you are on macOS 12.4 with iFamily for Mac v 2.12.0 I don't know why the application does not launch when you click on it - It usually bounces and puts up a Menu bar with the options to load a family tree if it hasn't found one - or a requester to check for any update. Hi, Tried Ancestor and Ancestor by Generation and they seem OK. Tried Descendant report again and managed to create a Single line repot of the same (wrong) format as you had. Then, it would not generate the multiline report again so I believe the options are not being correctly read. Also, the gener...
