Thank you Dennis for elaborating. Screen Shot: I use the command-shift-4 for screen shots all the time in many contexts so am very familiar with it. Had used it a time or two for snapshot of context diagram as well. Thank you, Nigel: I did not know about the short-cut for getting the screen shot imm...

Dennis, I am struggling a lot with reports and will have to post some questions once I can get my issues sorted out enough to formulate them... Therefore I was interested in working with this post - thinking that it would at least advance me a step on one part. Your first method sounded so convolute...

Relationship calculator for Double Brother-in-Law ?
Example of double relationship: Bill Jensen is married to Jeannette Lopez Karen Jensen is married to Klaus Lopez. Bill and Karen are brother and sister; so are Jeanette and Klaus. Clear to me that Bill and Klaus are brothers-in law two ways: 1) Klaus is Bill's sister's husband 2) Klaus is Bill's wif...

New problem w/ CSV Events Places Report
Creating an Events > Events Places > create CSV filtered Place Name Report New Problem: I now consistently get nine columns, the last of which is notes. However, an odd thing. In two lines out of 143, the event name lists not as event name, but a repeat of place name. (Just in case it does matter, I...

That was a very quick and satisfying answer. I was able to make sense of this and use it to my advantage. Helped me with material on hand and hard to keep track of. However, Warwick - i am not sure I want to thank you for your quick answer: It got me so involved that I have now spent hours and my ey...

How to work with "Associated Person"
I am exploring the use of "associated Person" It is confusing to me and as I reread my writing about the issue, it too seems confused. Nonetheless, I hope that someone can understand what I am talking about and give some hints and experience. My thinking is to use it for information about people tha...

a new line character (/n) in the file as these occur in the multiline notes fields. That was exactly the problem! I located my five instances of new line character (/n) in note fields. As soon as those new line characters were removed, I had a very normal looking spreadsheet. Thank you, Nigel for t...

I did not have the problems you describe - all my data goes into columns 1-9 I wonder if you have imported the .csv file using some parameters that is putting a new row in when there is a new line character (/n) in the file as these occur in the multiline notes fields. Nigel Nigel, I am absolutely ...

Leave notes out of Place Names report?

Re: Re. Something I should beware of before I start?
I've discovered these things that are worth thinking about: 1. Think about your name conventions, then stick to your standards: a) I like ALL CAPS (an iFamily option) for LAST NAMES b) I put nicknames in quotations after: Given Name "Nick Name" c) I put titles in iFamily's Description field, not in...

Merge "two people" because they are one - SOLVED!
I have entered data about a person under two people with the same name. I expect it won't be the last it will happen. I wanted to merge the two rather than deleting one and reentering her material. However, when I go to FILE>COMPARE & MERGE>the four options here are grey and not available. I think I...

Thank you, Nigel and 4x4x4, I had not so much anticipated a slowing of the application by having too many people in a family file. I was more thinking that it might be easier for me to retain clarity of which line I am working with if there are two separate files. Also easier maybe that way to share...

Creating Project View
I am intrigued by "Project View" and I see how I can add one as long as it is "Create Ancestral View for Focal Person".
How do I create one other than that?
I can click on add button, I can give it a name, I can make notes to myself about it - but how about contents?

Combine two family files?
If I decide - for my own sanity while entering data - to keep two separate family files, one for my mother's side and one for my father's -
can I later without too much trouble and risk combine them into one iFamily file?

Place names format to work with Google Maps
I post this question with some trepidation. I know I should be able to figure it out on my own. All of my place names are in Denmark. I have started entering data into iFamily. Before I get too far with entry of place names I would like to understand what is needed for Google map interaction. (proba...

Easy enough to enter source from Events screen. I am familiar with that from my experimenting so far. I am quite relieved to find ...
