iFamily for Mac V2.9.7 - 20 Nov 2018 (Minor update on 26 Nov)
Change Log:- Most of the effort with Version 2.9.7 was around backend changes to make iFamily easier to support moving forwards. Structural Changes (changes to my workflow) =============== - Migrated the code repository from an older SVN style repo to a more modern GIT repo since Xcode no longer sup...

The Updates are not working
Earlier in 2018 I had to rebuild the iFamily website on a new web host when the old one fell in a heap. The good news is that I chose AWS, which while it is more expensive that a local Australian option, it will deliver (magnitudes) better performance to iFamily users in North America and Europe. On...

Re: macOS Mojavi
It's never pretty at first when I do this macOS upgrade. The menu bar in the middle is missing. It is actually there but invisible, (same colour as background?). The light mode is mostly ok, just a few The default colour scheme on the dark mode is horrid for visibility, (white text on grey!). Some t...

Re: macOS Mojavi
Great, my dev machine is a 2010 Mac mini and just bit the dust apparently... Time to upgrade I guess. While macOS High Sierra was available for some machines manufactured as early as 2009, macOS Mojave is largely limited to 2012 or newer machines, with the exception of some Mac Pro models. Here's a ...

Re: Chronology not Timeline
Hi Sali, Welcome. The amount of work I have to do on iFamily is like an iceberg and could sink ships. Not everything is always visible as there's always a lot of non programming work that distracts me from iFamily's true goals so please excuse any long breaks in conversation from my end. iFamily was...

Re: dropdown for previous focal persons
dropdown for previous focal persons does not work in 2.9.6 Even crashed when there was no previous person and was clicked on by accident. It looks like it is working ok on my end, using macOS 10.13.4. V296_dropdownBox.png I note you are still on OSX 10.7.5, are you able to upgrade OSX to at least 1...

Re: Unscheduled Website downtime
I finally managed to get the backup databases from my old web host, the forums are now active again and the data gap between December and February is back. (phew, what a lengthy journey). The only thing still not recreated on the new webhost is the FTP server from where the updates were sourced. I'l...

Unscheduled Website downtime
Apologies that iFamily website and emails have been down for the past 3 days. My webhost got acquired and I was forcibly migrated to a new host, who appear to be incompetent in the highest order. (They only migrated the DNS and not the webhosting or email accounts.). It is back up now and I will be ...

Re: 64 bit compatibility
I noticed that your next release may no longer support anything less than 10.10 , is this correct or will just some functions may not operate as intended??? Is this the release you intend for next month, in which case will you still support the current version? The next release will introduce a new...

iFamily for Mac V2.9.6 - 07 Oct 2017
Change Log:- 64 bit conversion =============== Major changes have been committed to accommodate Apples transition to supporting only 64 bit applications. Nearly every source file has been altered to reclassify the variable types used "under the hood". iFamily is now natively only a 64bit application...

iFamily for Mac V2.9.4 - Soft release - July 2016
Due to build issues V2.9.4 was never officially released. The Development and Deployment versions differed, the latter crashing when undertaking redraw of the diagram so the soft release was of the development version which contained debug information in the app. During preparation for V2.9.6 it was...

Re: Google responds with zero Lat/Long
Hi Brain,
The Zero lat/long Problem should be solved in the next version. Since this module was first written the URL from maps.google.com had changed syntax. I have corrected how it is parsed but am seeing many other improvements that could be made here.

I have been getting a few queries about 64 bit compatibility via email so thought I would place some information here to alleviate a little support load. Re: 64 bit compatibility
Thanks for letting me know about this, it had not been on my radar. The 64-bit conversion was half completed last time I worked on it, (c. 2015). If Apple has made the decree I will meet it. It is probably another 10-15 days of full time work to finish it the work and testing required. By some time ...

Re: Exporting to GEDCOM freezes - version 2.9.3
When I export my database to GEDCOM it freezes after writing some 2.6 MB or so. I suspect the database has been corrupted somehow, since it worked just fine earlier today. The major change was that I cleaned up the sources part of the database (lots of duplicates), and (now feeling stupid) did not ...

I will need to fix this for the next release, "NotesAdvice" is a key for the languages dictionary and should read: "Use the Notes button to edit this multi-line field." Where is my iFamily Data
The iFamilyData folder iFamily stores its' data in a folder called iFamilyData , which resides in your user home directory by default. This is controlled by whatever is on the top of the list in the "recent file list", ie: the most recently opened file. After opening iFamily, close all windows while leaving the program open. Then use File->Open... , this should place your tree at the top of the list when you look at the menu File->...

Re: Two people with the same name
iFamily will not mind if the have the same exact name, they will be assigned a different ID number to differentiate the two in the database. Use the AKA field, (Also Known As), if one has a alias or nickname in common use. This won't turn up in the index, but when you look at the personal sheet you ...

Last time I checked the calendar export there was a problem to fix. iFamily is able to export all significant dates (births, deaths and marriages), to iCal.
