ifamily Freeziing

As I've entered more data, I've encountered instances when iFamily has become unstable, it simply freezes. The program has nearly all options grayed out. This occurs almost exclusively when entering or attempting to access sources. Possible database corruption? Force Quit was the only way to e...

Re: Ifamily no longer loads database at startup.

Have you moved your iFamily database from its location when you originally installed the program? If this is not the case, I&#39d say you need to send Warwick an email. Maybe he can resolve your problem.

Re: Ifamily no longer loads database at startup.

When quitting iFamily try using Command (Apple key on older Macs) Q or click on iFamily tab in the toolbar and select Quit iFamily from the drop down list. If you close and quit, you are closing the database you had opened and the iFamily runs but expects you to select a database to access. Once you...

Thanks. Too bad about pdf's. While not exactly the same, I worked around this. I have a number of letters written in Italian from Sicily from the 1930's through 1940's. I embedded an image of each page of the letters with the translation on each page using Pages and then exporting to a sing...

Sync Files

I&#39m assuming you are not referring to the drop box feature which comes with OS X but rather the online storage. Does this mean that one has to be online when using iFamily or can one update one&#39s version of iFamily on one&#39s laptop and then sync the desktop via dropbox?

How does one access the transcription area located under the Notes area in Add/Edit Sources? I can access the notes section fine but the transcription section is inaccessible.

Generate HTML for a person and their ancestors only

I believe that is what iFamily does. The HTML which is generated is based on the focal person and the options one chooses on the pop-up preference screen which follows the selection of the generate option.

iFamily database on network drive

Glad you got it working. Perhaps iFamily ought to have an option in its preferences to select where one wants to put the data folder but still retain the default location for those who do not want to make such changes.

iFamily database on network drive

I don&#39t know if using a symbolic link to the network iFamily data folder would work. Perhaps the plist could be manually modified to reference the network drive location, etc. rather than merely deleting the plist as iFamily will recreate it if it is missing. Just a thought.

iFamily database on network drive

What I was suggesting did not involve using iFamily's move command. I meant that you should copy the iFamily data folder and paste it wherever you choose on the network drive. Before you do that compress the iFamily data folder as a backup, just in case things should go awry. Once you have moved ...

iFamily database on network drive

I believe you can copy the iFamily Data folder in your user folder and move it to your network drive. Make a backup first of course. When you use the Open option under Files in iFamily you can specify what you want to open. I haven't tried this on a network drive but it seems to me this should wo...

RE: PDF charts

I assume you are sending the PDF files using Mail.app. If so, then send the PDF file as an attachment and check the box which sends a Windows friendly attachment.

Hope this helps.

Snow Leopard

In what way/ways if any will the release of Snow Leopard effect iFamily?

And will iFamily continue to follow the cat naming convention that Apple has employed or will it settle into a simple less OS dependent naming convention, i.e., iFamily?

Just curious.

Re: 1: File size - and 2: Placeholders

I believe Keith pointed out when Leopard was released that the new OS had improved database functionality through Apple's implementation of SQLite and that iFamily would take advantage of that functionality if one followed the procedure that you described. The increased speed and the reduction of...

RE: iFamily on a USB flash drive

I've copied my entire iFamily folder to a flash drive for various reasons without incident. There is some discussion of this on the old forum at least. Keith had no problem with registered users installing iFamily on more than one computer so when running iFamily you should be able to open an iFamil...
