What's New in V2.227

Ancestors and Descendants Diagrams

Added a user option to indicate the gender of each person in the diagrams.
Added a user option to select the colour for highlighting the selected person.

Sequence of Spouses

iFamily for Tiger allows you to create a marriage event without entering a marriage date. Where a person has multiple spouses it is preferable to enter a marriage date even if it is only approximate. iFamily also allows you to create a union between two people and not create a marriage event at all.

There is no provision in iFamily for Tiger to designate which union was the first, second. third, ... union. To avoid the problem of displaying marriages/unions in the wrong sequence iFamily now uses the following logic for sorting and displaying them:
  • if a marriage date has been entered then it is used when sorting a person's spouses.
if no marriage date has been entered then an estimated date is used based on the birth date of the first child of the union.
To see the complexity of this problem consider the case of John of_Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, who had four alternate children by his legally wedded wife (Constance of Castile) and by his mistress (Katherine Swynford). John of_Gaunt (b. 1340) was the 3rd son of Edward III of England and was the father of Henry IV. He did finally make an honest woman of his mistress in 1396 - seventeen years after the birth of their last child. You can read more about John of_Gaunt here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_of_Ga ... _Lancaster

Sequence of Children

A similar technique has been used when sorting a child who has no birth date by assuming that the the birth occurred soon after the parents were married (if a marriage date exists).

The best solution is always to enter birth and marriage dates even if they are only approximate.

Polish and Czech Character Sets

Enhanced the 2 remaining reports and Gedcom Export to handle Polish and Czech character sets.
