What's New in V2.100

Toolbar Search Field

Added a search on Event Notes to the toolbar search field.

Added various small enhancements such as indicating in the results table the current filter that was used. Also, if nothing is found then it says so rather than just displaying an empty table.

Toolbar Customization

Corrected a bug that could sometimes occur after removing an item from the Toolbar.

Context Diagram

Added options in the Preferences panel to change the colours of the Selected Person, Spouse, and Ancestral View. Use the Colors button to access these new options.

People Index

Added a new floating panel called a People Index that allows you to do a search filtered by various criteria. Access to this function is via a button called Index on the toolbar. If the Index button does not appear after installing V2.100 then customize the toolbar by Right Clicking anywhere on the toolbar.

The People Index may be "Always on Top" which means that it is stuck on top of the main window like a sticky note and it will always move when the main window is moved. In "Always on Top" mode you may like to position the People Index to one side of the main window - like a drawer.

You may switch off "Always on Top" so that the panel always disappears when the main window is activated.

The People Index is intended to be a supplement the toolbar search field, not to replace it. It is particularly useful for large databases where many (100's) people have the same name, like Anders Andersen.

Events Pane

Reinstated the SortByDate button in Events Pane (hidden when not applicable). This is simply an an alternative to clicking on the header of the Date column.

Added SortByType to the sort sequence in the Events Pane.

Death dates may now be entered as a Y to indicate that "Yes I know the person is dead but I have no idea of the date of death".

You may now add a Birth or Death Event in the Events pane by using the [+] button in the bottom LH corner.

Events Places Editing

After performing a batch edit on an Event place name all other panes that are currently displaying that place name are correctly refreshed, including the active field editor.

In the Event Places and Event Names dialogs the tables may be sorted into yyyy/mm/dd sequence by clicking the header of the event date column.

Event Places - Find and Replace

An new function has been added that allows you to find and replace all occurrences of a string in an Event Place name. For instance you could search for all occurrences of "North Carolina" and replace them with NC.

Pictures Pane

The user can now adjust the height of the titles to allow for long titles
The space for textual infomation for each picture has been enlarged.
You can now import and display text documents (.txt, .doc, .html, ...) into the pictures pane and then right click to invoke the appropriate application to view/edit the document.

Pictures Pane - Mouse Actions

The mouse actions in the Picture Pane of the main window have been changed as follows:
  • 1. Double Click on a Picture or Document now invokes the default application for the file type. For instance if you always use Adobe Acrobat to view PDF files then Adobe Acrobat will be invoked by the double click on a PDF file; if you use Nisus Write Express as the default application for Rich Text files then the RTF file will be opened in Nisus Writer Express.

    2. Right Click on a Picture or Document and the pop-up menu now has Open With as the first menu item with its first sub-menu item the default for the file type that was clicked on,

    Open With >
    Edit
    Remove
    Make Default
    Transcribe
    People Linked to this Pictue
    .....
    .....

    3. Right Click on the Background of the Pictures Pane now displays a pop-up menu with items that apply to the set of pictures/documents, rather than for individual ones. as follows:

    Add Picture
    Paste Images
    Sort By Date / Title
    Sort By Title / Date
    Remove Duplicates
Pictures Dialog

When dropping a new picture, if there is existing text in the title, date or notes fields, then the user is given the option to keep or discard the existing data.

Pictures Where Used Report

A new report has been added under menu option Reports - Pictures Where Used. The report may be sorted by Person's Name or Family Name, Picture Filename or Title.

Transcription Editor

Enhanced the Transcription Editor so that you do not have to press Return to save a newly created hyper-link. Also, when you click on an existing hyper-link it is highlighted as the selected text.

Sources Dialog

Added an option to pre-define the format of Source Notes. For instance, you can define separate lines for File:, Volume:, etc and then reuse the same format for other Source Notes fields.

The user can now change the Source Id to any unused number or to a number that is greater than the maximum Source Id.

Gedcom Import

Event ADDR and PHON records now imported.
Duplicate OCCU records are only appended once to a person's Title/Occupation field.
Faster import of pictures - important if you have 1000's of them.
Added handling of custom tags from Family_Historian for images.
Added import of Source DATE records from Legacy.

Where a Gedcom FAM record is missing a husband or a wife the missing person is now named "Husband of yyy" and "Wife of xxx" instead of naming tham all as "Unknown"

Large Gedcom files that contain MIME encoded BLOB's for images can now be imported into iFamily for Tiger. A first pass of the Gedcom file simply discards the BLOB records so that they are not read into memory. You can add the images using Import Images after the remainder of the Gedcom file has been loaded into iFamily.

Compare and Merge Dialog

A new button called Auto Compare has been added that compares all people in the Source database with those in the Target database. A comprehensive report is generated that reports the differences. The table of Source people is then filtered to only show those people who do not have an exact match with a person in the Target database. At the moment this Auto Compare function is preliminary but it is useful if you need it so it had been left in.

This version was released on 17 April 2007
