Exporting Gedcom and Wikitree

Post by Frances144 » Tue Nov 08, 2016 9:13 pm

How do I export a Gedcom for about 4 generations of Ancestors that includes my sister, my aunts and uncles, cousins, etc - the extended part of the family.

All I can manage is the straight parents, parents parents, parents parents parents..... etc!

And does anyone else use Wikitree? THoughts, please.

Cheers and thank you

Hi,

You can export all the relatives of the focal person but it is not possible to limit to 4 generations unless you break a connection.

I expect you have used this option but under File..Export..Export Gedcom you can choose:

Whole of Database...
Only people in Diagram...
Only people in diagram + all spouses...
All people related to the Focal Person...
Ancestors of the Focal Person Only...
Descendants of the Focal Person Only...

I have not used WikiTree but it does seem that there is a limit to the number of people you can include in an upload/import so I expect you will need to break the connections (right click on a person and select 'Disconnect Person')

I hope that helps

Regards Nigel

Tip: You can use Command+Z (undo) to reconnect the parent-child relationship again after completing your Gedcom export.

I'll have a read up on WikiTrees
