Human readable hierarchical format <-> gedcom ?

Post by gavineadie » Wed Dec 02, 2009 3:51 am

I often see people show family trees in the following format. It&#39s certainly easier to read than gedcom (!), but I&#39m wondering if this is a frequently used format and, whether it is or not, if there&#39s a program out there to convert between it and gedcom, both ways. I ask because the sample below is the start of 4200 records ... (gulp), and I don&#39t much want to write the program myself

Code: Select all

1 John ADIE
  + Janet BALFOUR
    2 Henry ADIE b: 12 Nov 1749 c: 12 Nov 1749
      + Jannet HARLEY
    2 Jean ADIE b: ? 1751 c: 14 Apr 1751
    2 Margaret ADIE b: ? 1753 c: 29 Apr 1753
      + David MOIR
        3 Christian MOIR b: 1779
        3 Jannet MOIR b: 1780
        3 John MOIR b: 1782
        3 Margaret MOIR b: 1784
        3 Clementina MOIR b: 1786
Thanks .. Gavin

Hi Gavin

One of the iFamily Reports may do for you - select Reports > Descendants and from the list of requirements select "One Line per Person an Outline Report"

Good luck - Enid
