How much for a birth certificate? Â£20 - Â£25?

Is this a fact? Does anyone know of a cheaper way to obtain birth certificates in the UK of a person born around 1884? After all I'm not entirely 100% sure I have the right person until I see it!

You can often get the reference from Free BMD's http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ be aware not all are online yet but a large majority are you can also access on Ancestry all the BMD indexes for England you just have to trawl through page by page on a surname quarter by quarter
the people who advertise certs at Â£25 ect are running a business
