died in CCV?

Post by familyguy » Thu Jan 29, 2009 12:06 am

Hello,

I am new to genealogy and have been really enjoying working with iFamily. I received a copy of a family tree from a distant cousin of my wife (cousin twice removed?). The family tree which I suspect he did not prepare himself has several designations for deceased relatives, for instance, "died 1943 in CCV." I suspect that this means that this individual died in a concentration camp. I should add that both my wife and I are Jewish and that her ancestors were Hungarian Jews. Can anyone confirm the exact meaning of "CCV"?

Thanks,
FamilyGuy

Here&#39s a page with links to genealogical dictionaries and abbreviations.

http://www.cyndislist.com/diction.htm

Perhaps it is a good one to bookmark. (Although I could not locate CCV on the site with google.)
