Use Note or Comment

Post by DougBJ » Sun Aug 19, 2012 10:43 pm

What is the intended difference and use of a Note versus a Comment?

Hi,

A Note is for a piece of information you wish to keep with the person.

A Comment is for something you are not too sure about and want to check later.

You can list all entries with a comment to help keep track.

Hope that helps.

Nigel

Thanks Nigel.

Also, Notes are included in reports, web exports, on diagrams, etc.

Comments are not, they are treated more like a scratch/sketch area.

Warwick,

I knew that but forgot to add it.

The Menu item People ... Comment ... brings up a panel with the person details and the Comments allowing you to filter for particular comments etc.

I notice that the PRINT button has an incorrect mouse over popup ('Promotes selected person to be Focal person in the context diagram' or similar.)

Also, the Print button does not print - it generates a .csv file in excel (on my machine at least). This is OK but maybe the Button legend needs to be changed.

One final thing, the database field name for the person ID appears as 'ID' in the spreadsheet. Other columns appear OK.

Cheers, I will look into this for the next version. On first glance I cannot spot where the typos are but they'll make sense before long.

There are quite a few "Print" buttons throughout iFamily that generate reports instead. I'll consider each one as I work though the codebase. I do have to go through and replace all my "nib" files with "xib" files when time permits. (There are many).

I get the same results as Nigel except that the "Print" button opens Numbers on my Mac and there is no distortion in the ID column. Maybe a difference between how Excel and Numbers handles the data.

Mouseover on the Print button in iFamily, People, Duplicates, Print CVS Report displays the verbiage about promoting the Focal person, etc. although the Print CVS Report label does accurately portray what it does.

Mouseover "Delete Selected Event" in Events, Names also shows "Promote to Focal person, etc." In fact a few of the Print buttons and other action related buttons throughout the program have a similar display inconsistencies when one mouses over them.

Number ignores/processes the UTF8 BOM properly, Excel does not seem to in this case.
