Personal Notes

Post by Phil Kretsinger » Wed Dec 13, 2017 9:53 pm

I created a file:
Phil's History_PersonalNotes.csv

How did I do that? I have forgotten.

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil,

Not sure how you did it either.

I cannot find a way to output the notes - The People... Notes... menu option seems to be broken or I'm not using it correctly.

What information is in your .csv file?

Nigel

Nigel,

It is a Numbers file. The data is five fields. The people names are alphabetical.

field 1: person ID number
field 2: name
field 3: birth date
field 4: death date
field 5: Notes data

It's a valuable set of data. Getting notes out, especially lengthy notes, is difficult.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe someone knows how I did it.

Nigel,

A followup

The alphabetical listing is by first name.
It looks like everyone in my tree, which has a note attached, is included.

Hi Phil,

The only one I can see at the moment is the People ... Index... option which can generate a .csv file of all the people in the tree and allows you to select the fields that are generated such as death, birth, mothers names, fathers names etc but no Notes contents.

I'm wondering if the 'report' you used has been dropped from the current build (i'm on the latest build running macOS High Sierra) - hopefully Warwick will be able to help provide an answer.

I agree that such a report is a useful tool in finding what is in the database.

Hi Again,

I have just tried the People ... Notes... menu item and it will output (when you Print) a .csv file with a name much as you outlined and containing fields for the Name, born, died and Notes.

Only trouble is I cannot get it to generate any content other than the titles.

As I said earlier, it is either broken or I am not using it properly. Help from Warwick definitely needed.

Regards,

Nigel

Nigel,

I generated that file on Sep 16, 2017

And upgraded to 2.9.6 on Oct 11, 2017

I haven't tried to create that csv file yet. Maybe I'll try it.

Hi Both

Did you resolve? In trying to test this I have stumbled on another issue, any attempt to use the search box on people / notes... or comments... results in an instantaneous crash of the whole programme (in the case of the notes contains field crashes when you press return, but in the comments contains field crashes as soon as I enter any text). Using latest version 2.9.6 on high sierra.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Hi Matthew,

I believe the problem Phil noticed relates to the GUI changes in the latest build and I am sure Warwick will fix it as soon as he can in the next release.

I haven’t seen the problem you mention in that section of the app but it does happen when in full screen mode in the main search box - as in the release note.

Were you in full screen mode?

I will test when back on my laptop.

Hi Matthew,

I have just been trying the People.. Notes... form and entering text in the family name search box.

It works OK if there are two databases open but crashes the app if only one is open.

I'm sure it is all linked to the GUI changes for 64 bit working and will be fixed RSN (well next year anyway).

Regards,

Nigel
