In the Preferences panel you can decide if you want family names all uppercase on entry, ie when you type it.

In menu option People - Family Names you can change all existing family names to be capitalised (Brown) or uppercase (BROWN)

You enter a person's name just as you would write it, so if you enter " Mary Anne Brown" iFamily splits it into

First name = Mary

Given Names = Mary Anne

Family name = Brown

If Mary's family name was Brown Watson you need to make sure that iFamily recognises Brown Watson the last " word" as the family name. You can enter it as Mary-Brown, or as Mary_Brown or use a no-break space (instead of a space) between the two words. A no-break space is obtained by holding down the Option key while you press the spaceBar.

You can use Option+SpaceBar in any Mac application to make sure that a string of words is never broken up when it is line-wrapped.
