Merge two Data Bases?

Can two databases be merged together? I have recently started my family tree, and in my research, I have found a second cousin who has been doing a family tree as well. Recently, she sent me a .ged file that contains a lot more information on my mother's side of the family than what I currently have. (But some is duplicate) Can the date she sent me be merged into the database I have?
