Navigating the Context Diagram

Post by Keith Wilson » Tue May 01, 2007 6:52 am

Here are some tips on navigation that you may not have found yet

The Toolbar

The Search field on the Toolbar works on " words that start with" so Q e II finds Elizabeth Mary Windsor.

The Search field on the Toolbar has a drop-down list of filters.

The Previous Focal People on the Toolbar has a drop-down list of previous focal people.

The Context Diagram

The Context Diagram has the focus immediately after you click somewhere on it.

Various mouse and keystroke combinations work when the context diagram has the focus - try them all

The 4 Arrow keys, Left Right, Up and Down
Apple+(Left, Right, Up or Down)Arrows
Left Click on a person, on a ghost box
Right Click on person, a ghost box or the background
Double Click on a person
Apple+Click on a person
Delete[x] (or Fn+Delete on a laptop)
Delete
Option+Apple+I (or just I)
Option+Apple+T (or just T)
Option+Apple+S (or just S)
Option+Apple+P
Option+Apple+N
Apple+W
Apple+Q
Apple+O
Apple+N

The central point of each Parent-Child relationship line is a button that allows you to change a relationship.

The most important to remember is Right Click. If you only have one button then use Control+Click

If you have two databases open at the same time then Right Click on a ghost box also allows you to merge the databases.

Most of the fields in the lower panes of the main window are editable and respond a Right Click.
