Thanks for an awesome program! Your diligence is honorable :)

Hi Kirk
  • 1. Type the text of the hyperlink, e.g. http ://www.ifamilyforleopard.com
    2. Select the text that is to be the hyperlink
    3. Right click on the selected text and then choose Make Hyperlink in the pop-up menu.

Hi Kirk,

This will allow links to files held on your computer but with certain limitations. The format requires a link destination of the type:
file:/// file path/file name.ext (NOTE those three forward slashes ///)
and the URL will start with:
http://your_text_or_similar_no_spaces (NOTE avoid spaces)

An example using a jpeg image sitting in your Pictures folder:
user name = kirk
image = kirk example.jpg

1. On the story tab type the text of the URL, which can be anything you like. It does not have to be a website. In this case:
http://an_example_for_kirk
2. Select the text that will become a hyperlink.
3. Right click on the selected text and then choose Make Hyperlink in the pop-up menu.
4. Select the hyperlink text. In this case:
http://an_example_for_kirk
5. Right click on the selected text and then choose Edit Link in the pop-up menu.
6. Paste or enter a relevant destination. In this case:
file:///Users/kirk/iFamilyforTigerData/Pictures/kirk example.jpg
7. Click on OK

You now have a URL to an image held in your Pictures file BUT this could be any file on your machine that has a relevant default application i.e. this could be text or a Microsoft document or ...etc. Try this in the same link but this time for an rtf on your desktop:
1. Have kirk example.rtf or whatever on your desktop i.e. a piece of text saved in TextEdit
2. Same procedure but at the Edit Link stage enter file:///Users/kirk/Desktop/kirk example.rtf
There are a lot of possibilities!

The Royal Family Story pane for QE II was created as follows:
  • 1. I Googled for Wikipedia Queen Elixabeth II using Safari
    2. In Safari I used menu option Edit - Select All and then Edit - Copy
    3. In iFamily for Tiger I Right Clicked on QE II's Story pane and selected Paste.

Adding to the previous reply for Kirk.

After making the hyperlink it can be edited with Alt+left click to something more sensible and dropping the http: etc. If a normal edit using left click is tried then the link will activate and therefore Alt+left click is recommended. This type of link can be used to open images, documents, web pages, another database, applescript and others.

Hi Ricky

The answer is no because the other fields like Notes must be Gecom 5.5 compatible and that does not allow for Rich Text Format. There are actually fields already defined in the iFamily database for holding Notes as RTF but they have not been implemented.
