Combining public and private trees

Post by jlwoodard » Thu Aug 12, 2010 1:59 am

I have been trying to figure out how to combine my public family tree that I downloaded in GEDCOM format from ancestry dot com with my private family tree in iFamily. My public family tree contains no living people, while my private tree contains living people and many non-living people who are also in my public tree, though the non-living people in my private tree have not been updated as much as the people in my public tree.

It would be great if I could just select the living people from my private tree and merge them somehow with my public tree, but I don&#39t think it will be that simple.

Anyway, I&#39d greatly appreciate any suggestions for merging the updated information in my public tree with my existing iFamily private tree. Any tips on keeping the two in sync would also be very helpful for me. Many thanks in advance!

Hi,

A quick search of the postings found this link:

which might give a clue on merging gedcom files.

I have not done this but it does seem to be possible though quite involved.

If I see any other info I will post again.
