Sources for Notes

Post by Robin Helmond » Thu May 03, 2012 1:19 am

I have entered some information (extract from a newspaper) in the Notes field for a person. I cannot see how to attribute the source of this information, other than including it in the notes. Or are Notes non-attributable?

Hi Robin,

I believe that sources only relate to Events though an Event can have a Notes section.

The issue is to chose an Event that matches the information in the Note.

For example, if it relates to the address of the person then the Event is RESI which can be selected when adding a new Event.

You can then define a Source type (e.g. Newspaper) and enter the details of the particular paper (title, date, page etc).

I hope that helps.

Sources for Notes

The newspaper article in question relates to a number of events about the whole family so no one event would cover it.
So I will just include the source information in the text of the article.
Robin.

Hi Robin,

I believe the usual approach would be to add an event for each fact in the article and add a source citation for each one.

You can clone events for other people to save some typing.

Source for Notes

I think I will put the text of the article in the Notes section for each person. The existing events are already sourced to vital records, but I will also refer them to the newspaper article which ties them all together.
Thanks for your ideas.
Robin
