If easily done, you might consider adding an option to display in the source list and the source selection menu a source abbrev if nonempty, the title otherwise.
There are cases when the title is concise enough. Of course, it's very easy to dup it into abbrev; still, if the app did the above, it would be just a wee bit more convenient
